The U.S. Embassy has issued a notice to American citizens regarding scheduled protests in Slovakia on February 21 and 22. The protests are organized by various opposition political parties and civil society groups to commemorate the sixth anniversary of Slovak journalist Jan Kuciak's murder. On February 22, Slovak farmers plan to protest across the country.
The embassy advises U.S. citizens to avoid areas where protests are expected, particularly in Bratislava at Namestie Slobody, as well as other cities including Kosice, Banska Bystrica, Prievidza, and several others. There is potential for road closures and traffic disruptions due to the anticipated large number of participants.
Citizens are urged to be cautious of their surroundings, remain aware of any spontaneous counter-protests, and move to safety if altercations occur. It is recommended that they set a predetermined meeting point with friends or family in case of separation.
