Bratislava is set to host its annual PRIDE festival, including a march parade and various events from July 19 to 21. The main parade will occur around Namestie Slobody (Freedom Square) on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from noon until 10 p.m.
The Department of State has acknowledged the increased potential for violence inspired by foreign terrorist organizations or extremists targeting LGBTQI+ individuals and the Bratislava PRIDE events. The Slovak Minister of the Interior has publicly recognized threats against the Pride march. Attendees should expect traffic detours, disruptions in public transportation, and a significant police presence. The Department advises those attending to remain vigilant.
U.S. citizens overseas are advised to exercise heightened caution as large-scale events may attract criminals and extremists.
The Department of State recommends several actions for safety:
- Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
- Stay alert in areas popular with tourists and at Pride celebrations.
- Be mindful of any spontaneous counter-protests.
- In case of altercations or violence, leave immediately with family or group members to a safe location.
- Establish a meeting point with friends and family if separated.
- Review the worldwide travel advisory available on travel.state.gov.
