Heather Rogers Deputy Chief of Mission | U.S. Embassy in Slovakia

Ambassador Rana recently addressed a joint reception organized by AmCham Košice and the U.S. Embassy Bratislava, celebrating Independence Day in Košice. In his speech, he acknowledged the collaborative efforts of AmCham and the Embassy staff in making the event possible.

Reflecting on past milestones, Ambassador Rana noted last year's celebration of Slovakia's 30th anniversary of independence and its bilateral relations with the United States. He highlighted Slovakia's progress over three decades in modernizing its economy and enhancing opportunities for its citizens.

This year marks significant anniversaries for Slovakia: 20 years of NATO membership on March 29th and EU accession on May 1st. Ambassador Rana emphasized that these memberships have been crucial for Slovakia's development, bringing security, prosperity, and foreign investment opportunities. "NATO and EU membership brought security, prosperity, and countless new opportunities to Slovakia and its people," he stated.

The ambassador praised the role of political leaders, diplomats, civil servants, businesses, and civil society in achieving these goals. "It was you — the business community... who served as tireless advocates," he said.

Additionally, this year marks 30 years since the establishment of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Slovakia. Ambassador Rana credited AmCham with supporting economic transformation post-communism through networking and advocacy efforts.

In Košice and eastern Slovakia, AmCham is recognized for mapping regional potential and promoting inclusive economic development. The ambassador expressed admiration for local talent during his visits to the region.

Furthermore, this year also commemorates the 20th anniversary of the American Center in Košice at the State Scientific Library. The center hosted over 200 events last year with nearly 6,000 annual visitors. Ambassador Rana applauded Martina and Jozef from the American Space for their engagement with teachers across various Slovak cities.

The English Access Scholarship program is being launched in Lunik IX in cooperation with ETP Slovakia to empower youth from disadvantaged communities through education. Two teachers are currently being recruited for this initiative.

Ambassador Rana concluded by expressing gratitude to AmCham: "Thank you once again to AmCham – I hope you all have a wonderful evening!"
