Today, President Donald J. Trump issued a proclamation recognizing February 2025 as National Black History Month. In his statement, the President highlighted the contributions of black American patriots to the nation's history.
"Every year, National Black History Month is an occasion to celebrate the contributions of so many black American patriots who have indelibly shaped our Nation’s history," said Trump. He emphasized the significant role played by black Americans in shaping America's cultural and political landscape.
The proclamation mentioned prominent figures such as Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Thomas Sowell, and Justice Clarence Thomas. These individuals are acknowledged for their achievements that have advanced equality under the law. The President also noted sports icon Tiger Woods for pushing boundaries in his field.
Trump expressed gratitude towards black Americans for their past and future contributions as America moves into what he termed a "historic Golden Age." "I want to extend my tremendous gratitude to black Americans for all they have done to bring us to this moment," he stated.
The President called on public officials, educators, librarians, and citizens across the country to observe National Black History Month with suitable programs and activities.
The proclamation was signed by Trump on January 31st, 2025.
