Siemens Mobility and Sydney Metro have unveiled the design for the new metro train as part of the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project. The high-fidelity train mock-up has arrived in Australia, marking a significant milestone for the 23-kilometer turnkey project extending from St. Mary's to the new airport and Bradfield City Center.

Léon Soulier, CEO of the Turnkey Business Unit at Siemens Mobility, expressed enthusiasm about the project: "The high-fidelity train mock-up for the Sydney Metro -Western Sydney Airport turnkey project has arrived in Australia and marks another milestone for us. We are excited about our turnkey project in Sydney stretching 23 kilometers from St. Mary's to the new airport and Bradfield City Center."

Soulier highlighted that this new line will support 14,000 jobs during construction, contributing to economic growth in New South Wales and nationally.

The presented mock-up displays a detailed interior design aimed at providing passengers with a comfortable travel experience. Features include large windows for expansive views, flexible seating arrangements, additional handrails for secure holding, spacious interiors with multifunctional areas for wheelchairs, and wide double doors for efficient boarding.

The life-sized physical model allows all involved parties to evaluate aspects such as interior lighting, emergency features, and passenger information systems. This prototype aids engineers and designers in validating final design choices before manufacturing begins.

During the presentation, unique upholstery designs were revealed. These seats feature artwork honoring Cumberland Plain's cultural elements like Ngurra (country) and Badu (water). The general seat colors represent night skies while priority seats depict daytime scenes near waterholes with wattle flowers.

Siemens Mobility was awarded a turnkey contract in 2022 to deliver Australia's first public-private partnership rail project. The contract includes delivering twelve automated driverless trains along with digital infrastructure such as signaling and telecoms. Railigent X will be implemented to enhance operational reliability over a 15-year maintenance period using digital asset management applications.

Siemens Mobility is part of Parklife Metro consortium; their portion of this contract is valued at 900 million euros.
