Fulbright scholarship opens applications for Samoan students seeking Master's degrees

The U.S. Embassy in Apia has announced the opening of applications for the 2026 Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship Program. This program offers fully funded scholarships for Samoan citizens to pursue Master's degrees in the United States for a period of one year or more.

To be eligible, applicants must hold Samoan citizenship without dual nationality and reside in Samoa throughout the application process. They are required to have at least one undergraduate degree and a minimum of two years of work experience following graduation. For those applying in engineering and physical sciences, their undergraduate degree should align with their proposed Master's field of study.

The program supports a wide range of fields, including art, health and medical sciences, biological sciences, public administration, business, humanities, education, law, engineering, social sciences, and physical science. Applicants are encouraged to visit foreign.fulbrightonline.org for detailed information on these fields.

While there is no minimum GPA requirement for application submission, prospective candidates should verify they meet the admission criteria of their intended host institutions in the U.S. The complete application package consists of an online application form available at https://apply.iie.org/ffsp2026/, two essays detailing study objectives and personal statements, three letters of recommendation, transcripts and degrees from higher educational institutions attended, English proficiency test scores, and a curriculum vitae.

Applications for the 2026-2027 academic year must be submitted by April 30, 2025 (Samoa time), through the online portal mentioned above.

The scholarship covers tuition fees, provides a monthly living stipend, health and accident insurance coverage, as well as round-trip airfare from Samoa to the United States.
