The U.S. Embassy in Port Moresby has unveiled a new logo and slogan to commemorate 50 years of Papua New Guinea's independence and the diplomatic relationship between the two nations. This year marks a significant milestone for both countries, with various embassy events planned to celebrate their shared history and democratic values.
"The logo and slogan will be shared on U.S. government communication and programming across PNG for the next year," stated Ambassador Yastishock. "I am so proud of the U.S. embassy community’s creativity and appreciation for our countries’ shared values and the future of the bi-lateral relationship."
The logo features a creative representation of the number 50, incorporating elements from both national flags. The Kumul bird symbolizes Papua New Guinea's unique culture and its development as a nation, overlapping with the American flag to illustrate the growing partnership over five decades. The design was crafted by U.S. Diplomat Deborah Ou-Yang.
The slogan, "shared values, shared future," reflects common democratic principles shaping a collective vision for what lies ahead. It was developed by Kenneth Minnopu, a local staff member at the embassy who is also a civil-architectural engineer.
On January 28th, an event was held at the embassy to kick off celebrations of this anniversary. During this event, rare World War II photographs of U.S. General MacArthur were presented to Governor General Bob Dadae by the U.S. Ambassador.
In addition to these commemorations, plans are underway for further events aimed at strengthening ties between both nations through sister city partnerships, security cooperation initiatives, sports diplomacy efforts, among other activities.
