The United States has expressed gratitude to Brazil for its leadership of the Peacebuilding Commission over the past year. The U.S. attributes many of the Commission's achievements to Ambassador Danese and his team's efforts in guiding the work.
Looking ahead, the United States is eager to collaborate with Germany as it assumes the role of Chair for the upcoming year. Appreciation was also extended to Secretary-General Guterres for his presentation during a recent meeting.
Reflecting on 2024, progress was noted in prevention and peacebuilding initiatives. A representative from the United States highlighted three key points regarding these developments:
"First, we welcome the prioritization of preventing conflicts, which could contribute to lessening conflict and the ensuing cycle of expending more resources after conflicts have broken out."
"Second, we encourage broad member state support aimed at improving peacebuilding and conflict prevention efforts."
"Finally, we look forward to the 2025 Peacebuilding Architecture Review and thank Egypt and Slovenia for agreeing to co-facilitate the review process in the coming months."
The review process is seen as an opportunity to develop a more integrated approach to prevention and peacebuilding. In support of these efforts, attention was drawn to a Presidential Statement adopted by the Security Council on January 27, endorsing this review.
In conclusion, there is optimism about leveraging opportunities in 2025 for evolving the Peacebuilding Commission to better meet member states' expectations.
