We observe International Holocaust Remembrance Day, as designated by the United Nations, to remember the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau on January 27, 1945. This camp was the largest Nazi concentration and death camp. The day is set aside to solemnly remember the six million Jews who were systematically murdered across Europe by the Nazis and their collaborators, along with millions of others who were killed. It is also a time to honor those who survived, express gratitude to the liberators, and renew a shared commitment to human freedom and justice.

This year marks 80 years since World War II ended and with it, the Holocaust. It may be one of the last opportunities for survivors to share firsthand accounts of their experiences. Marco Rubio, Secretary of State, stated: "As Secretary of State, I will continue my unwavering commitment to support Holocaust survivors and their heirs, just as I did in the United States Senate."
