Carrier Strike Group One, led by the USS Carl Vinson, has arrived in Laem Chabang, Thailand, for a scheduled port visit. This visit underscores the long-standing diplomatic ties between the United States and Thailand, which span over 190 years. Thailand is recognized as one of five U.S. treaty allies in the Indo-Pacific region.

Rear Adm. Michael S. Wosje, commander of CSG-1, expressed gratitude towards Thailand for hosting the crews: “Visiting Thailand provides us with an invaluable opportunity to collaborate with our Royal Thai Navy counterparts and reinforce the importance of the committed partnership to Thailand.”

During their stay, crewmembers will explore Thai culture and participate in community service events. Some Thai-American crew members will have an opportunity to reconnect with their heritage.

The USS Carl Vinson is a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier equipped for various global missions including humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. The strike group includes several other vessels such as USS Princeton and guided-missile destroyers USS Sterett and USS William P. Lawrence.

Carrier Air Wing Two (CVW-2) operates from the Carl Vinson with squadrons flying F-35C Lightning II jets among other aircraft.

Operating within the U.S. 7th Fleet area, this visit highlights ongoing interactions with regional allies aimed at maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
