We commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day, a date designated by the United Nations to mark the anniversary of the January 27, 1945, liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. This camp was the largest Nazi concentration and death camp. The day is dedicated to remembering the six million Jews systematically murdered across Europe by the Nazis and their collaborators, as well as millions of others who were killed.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated, "We honor those who survived, thank the liberators, and renew our shared commitment to human freedom and justice."

This year marks 80 years since World War II ended along with the Holocaust. It may be one of the last opportunities for survivors to share eyewitness accounts of their experiences. Secretary Rubio affirmed his ongoing support: "As Secretary of State, I will continue my unwavering commitment to support Holocaust survivors and their heirs, just as I did in the United States Senate."
