We commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day, established by the United Nations to honor the anniversary of Auschwitz-Birkenau's liberation on January 27, 1945. This day serves as a solemn reminder of the six million Jews who were systematically murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators across Europe, along with millions of others who also perished. The occasion honors those who survived, expresses gratitude to the liberators, and reaffirms a collective commitment to human freedom and justice.

This year signifies 80 years since World War II ended and the Holocaust occurred. It is likely among the final opportunities for survivors to share firsthand accounts of their experiences. The Secretary of State stated, "As Secretary of State, I will continue my unwavering commitment to support Holocaust survivors and their heirs, just as I did in the United States Senate."
