Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State, issued a statement on the eve of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This day, recognized by the United Nations, commemorates the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau on January 27, 1945. The camp was the largest Nazi concentration and death camp during World War II.

In his statement, Rubio highlighted the remembrance of six million Jews who were systematically murdered by Nazis and their collaborators across Europe. He also acknowledged the millions of others who lost their lives during this dark period in history. "We honor those who survived, thank the liberators, and renew our shared commitment to human freedom and justice," said Rubio.

This year marks 80 years since World War II ended along with the Holocaust. Rubio pointed out that it might be one of the last opportunities for survivors to share their firsthand experiences. As Secretary of State, he reaffirmed his dedication to supporting Holocaust survivors and their descendants. "I will continue my unwavering commitment to support Holocaust survivors and their heirs, just as I did in the United States Senate," stated Rubio.
