Sun Life Financial Inc. has announced a donation of $225,000 to support communities affected by the recent wildfires in California. The fires have been significant, burning over 30,000 acres and destroying thousands of homes across Los Angeles County.
The funds will be distributed among several community organizations providing aid in the region. Among the recipients is the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles Community Impact Fund, which offers essential items, food, childcare services, and other resources to those affected. Another beneficiary is the Los Angeles Unified School District Education Foundation's Emergency Relief Fund, which supports students and families with financial assistance and mental health resources.
In addition to these local efforts, Sun Life affiliated companies SLC Management and BGO are contributing to the American Red Cross. Meanwhile, Sun Life U.S., including DentaQuest and MFS, are supporting both the World Central Kitchen and the American Red Cross.
Sun Life is also extending additional support to its clients impacted by the wildfires. This includes helping them find necessary healthcare providers if they have relocated, offering extra time for premium payments, facilitating alternate benefit arrangements for evacuees, and providing access to Employee Assistance Programs.
Clients needing assistance can visit Sun Life's website for more information on available resources. The company encourages others wishing to contribute to relief efforts to donate directly to the American Red Cross.
