Belgian MP on crypto: Let's 'take inspiration from what Americans do best: dare, undertake and innovate'

Christophe De Beukelaer, a Belgian Member of Parliament, emphasized that Europe should draw inspiration from American traits such as daring, undertaking, and innovating. He made this statement on January 20 in a post on X, coinciding with the inauguration of Donald Trump.

“In short, instead of being afraid, let's roll up our sleeves and take inspiration from what Americans do best: dare, undertake and innovate,” De Beukelaer said. “This is the main message we should hear today from Washington!”

According to Cointelegraph, De Beukelaer has been a proponent of integrating cryptocurrency into European financial systems. In January 2022, he became the first European politician to convert his entire salary into Bitcoin. His goal was to raise awareness about alternative monetary models and financial education. Through these initiatives, De Beukelaer aims to position Europe at the forefront of the cryptocurrency sector by emphasizing the importance of understanding and actively participating in this evolving financial field.

During remarks at the World Economic Forum on January 23, 2025, President Trump said that his initiative to unlock U.S. oil and gas resources would establish the United States as "the world capital of artificial intelligence and crypto." Trump also outlined efforts by his administration to implement extensive deregulation.

A crypto-themed inauguration ball was held to celebrate Donald Trump's 2025 inauguration at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C., attended by executives from companies such as Crypto.com, Kraken, and Exodus. The event featured a performance by Snoop Dogg and marked the first-ever crypto-themed inauguration ball. It celebrated the intersection of politics and the digital asset industry as industry leaders, policymakers, and influencers gathered to discuss the future of cryptocurrencies under the new administration, according to Reuters.

De Beukelaer is also president of The Committed Brussels party and focuses on pragmatic climate action and efficient mobility in Brussels. He co-founded Brussels Blockchain Week to bring together crypto enthusiasts exploring blockchain technology's future. He advocates for developing Brussels as a technological and ecological hub. With experience in startups and simplifying Brussels' institutions, De Beukelaer has a background in management engineering and co-founded Meltingpom.be, a company supplying healthy snacks and organic products.
