The U.S. Embassy in Tashkent has announced the fourth round of a self-defense camp for women and girls in Urgench. The initiative aims to equip participants with skills and confidence to protect themselves, addressing the widespread issue of physical violence against women.
According to statistics, one in three women experiences physical violence during her lifetime, often by someone they know. Harassment and stalking are common problems faced by many women globally.
In collaboration with an alumna from a U.S. Department of State Sports Visitor exchange program and professional Judo and Sambo instructors in Khorezm, the embassy will conduct classes at the Judo and Sambo Center in Urgench. These sessions will run for three months starting February 2025, though the exact date is yet to be announced.
Classes will cater to two age groups, each accommodating up to 30 participants. Interested individuals can apply through a provided link. The deadline for registration is Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
Participants will learn various techniques for self-defense as well as methods for maintaining strength and overall well-being. Additionally, stress management techniques and strategies for conflict resolution and open communication will be taught.
These classes are available to girls and women aged 13 years or older, regardless of their fitness level or prior training experience.
