President Biden is set to host President Pedro Sanchez of Spain at the White House on May 12. The meeting aims to enhance the longstanding relationship between the United States and Spain. Discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral defense ties, transatlantic security, and economic prosperity.
The leaders will also address their support for Ukraine amidst Russia's ongoing aggression. Coordination on various issues is expected as Spain prepares for its upcoming role as the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union in July. Topics include climate change and increased cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean.
"President Biden looks forward to welcoming President Pedro Sanchez of Spain to the White House on Friday, May 12 to further deepen the historic ties between the United States and Spain," stated White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
"They will discuss our unwavering support for Ukraine and our efforts to impose costs on the Kremlin as Russia continues its brutal war of aggression," she added.
"The leaders will coordinate on a range of issues as Spain prepares to assume the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union in July, including climate change and expanded cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean."
