The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program is now accepting applications from high school students in Libya for the academic year 2024-2025. The program offers scholarships for a year-long study experience in the United States, where participants live with host families, attend American high schools, and engage in cultural exchange activities.

Funded by the U.S. Department of State, the YES program was established by Congress in 2003 to foster understanding between the United States and countries with significant Muslim populations. Participants act as "youth ambassadors," promoting cross-cultural understanding through interactions with their host communities.

Eligible applicants must be Libyan citizens residing in Libya, enrolled in grades 10 or 11, aged between 15 and 17.5 by August 15, 2025, and have maintained at least a B average over the past three years. Proficiency in English is required, along with qualities such as maturity and academic excellence. Parental approval is necessary for participation.

The application process includes multiple stages: an online preliminary application, submission of transcripts and identification documents, English proficiency tests, essays, and interviews. All candidates are evaluated based on merit.

Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply; support is available through Mobility International (MIUSA) to ensure a fulfilling experience in the U.S., provided they meet eligibility criteria.

Applications must be submitted by November 4, 2024. More information can be found at http://www.yesprograms.org/, or by contacting Libya@AMIDEAST.org or LibyaUSAExchanges@state.gov.
