Deputy Secretary of State John J. Sullivan is set to embark on a diplomatic tour from December 12-20, visiting Bratislava, Vienna, Sofia, Sarajevo, Skopje, and Warsaw. The visit aims to strengthen U.S. ties with these nations and address regional security issues.

In Bratislava on December 12, Sullivan will emphasize the importance of U.S.-Slovak relations and encourage Slovakia to leverage its upcoming chairpersonship of the OSCE to enhance the organization's response to Russian activities in Europe. Discussions will also cover defense modernization and cooperation.

On December 13 in Vienna, Austria, he will thank Austrian officials for their contributions to security cooperation in Afghanistan and the Western Balkans. He will also discuss countering Iranian and Russian malign activities. Despite ongoing concerns about Russia's actions, Sullivan will lead a counterterrorism dialogue with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Syromolotov.

Sullivan's agenda in Sofia on December 14 includes advocating for NATO-interoperable U.S. systems and stressing the significance of energy diversification for Bulgaria’s national security.

In Sarajevo on December 16, he plans to urge Bosnian leaders to maintain stability and continue reforms towards Western integration. He will also promote dialogue among religious communities for reconciliation post-war.

His visit to Skopje on December 18 marks the highest-level State Department visit since 2001. Sullivan will address regional issues and support Macedonia's efforts in implementing the Prespa Agreement.

The final stop in Warsaw on December 19 involves reaffirming U.S. commitment to NATO. Sullivan will commend Poland for its defense burden-sharing efforts and energy security initiatives amid shared concerns over projects like Nord Stream 2.

Throughout his journey, Sullivan intends to engage with U.S. Embassy staff, business community representatives, alumni of U.S. exchange programs, and civil society in each country.
