The 24th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP24) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is set to occur in Katowice, Poland, from December 2-14, 2018. Judith Garber, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs at the Department of State, will lead the U.S. delegation. Georgette Mosbacher, U.S. Ambassador to Poland, will represent the country at the World Leaders Summit on December 3.

The U.S. delegation will comprise officials from various government bodies including the White House, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Energy, Department of Treasury, Department of Agriculture, and USAID.

The Administration's stance on the Paris Agreement remains unchanged with intentions to withdraw as soon as eligible. However, participation in ongoing negotiations continues "to ensure a level playing field that benefits and protects U.S. interests."

During COP24, the U.S. delegation plans to present strategies for economic growth while maintaining energy affordability and security for Americans. These efforts include promoting jobs, environmental protection, and emission reductions. Notably, since 2005, U.S. energy-related CO2 emissions have decreased by 14 percent alongside a 19.4 percent economic growth rate.

"Innovation and entrepreneurship" are credited for these achievements through advancements in technology across America's energy sector.
