The U.S. Embassy in Poland marked the centennial of Poland's rebirth with a special event at the Ateneum Theater in Warsaw. Deputy Chief of Mission Eric Green attended the English language premiere of "Polish Fantasy" on December 1, as part of the yearlong celebrations titled "100 Lat Razem" (100 Years Together).
The play, created by Polish dramatist Maciej Wojtyszko and director Andrzej Strzelecki, is a historical comedy that presents an imagined behind-the-scenes look at communications between Ignacy Jan Paderewski, President Woodrow Wilson, and their wives before Wilson's 1917 Senate address advocating for Polish statehood. This argument was later reiterated in Wilson's Fourteen Points speech to Congress in January 1918.
The U.S. Embassy expressed gratitude to Wojtyszko, Strzelecki, the cast, and project partners such as the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Piotr Janowski Foundation, and Ateneum Theater for their contributions to this cultural initiative. The theater also celebrates its 90th anniversary this year.
