International conference focuses on educating Polish teachers about Holocaust

Ambassador Mosbacher addressed 200 Polish teachers at the opening of an international conference titled "How to talk about Righteous? Representations in Culture, Meaning in Education." The event was organized by the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw and co-sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Poland. In her remarks, Ambassador Mosbacher praised the teachers, stating, "You are the world-changers on the front lines; you are the people who educate future generations; and you are the ones who influence people’s attitudes when it comes to remembering, discussing, and studying the Holocaust."

The conference was attended by several officials including POLIN's Deputy Director Zygmunt Kępiński, Secretary of State Jarosław Sellin from Poland’s Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Vice President of Warsaw Włodzimierz Paszyński, Israeli Ambassador to Poland Anna Azari, and Stanlee Stahl from the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous.

Experts such as Dr. Stephen D. Smith from USC Shoah Foundation and Karen Jungblut also participated. Tom Yazdgerdi from the U.S. Department of State attended as well.

The conference received support from various organizations including POLIN, U.S. Embassy, Center for Citizenship Education, Civic Educational Association, Warsaw Centre for Socio-Educational Innovation and Training, and Jewish Foundation for the Righteous. This marked the second consecutive year that POLIN organized this event with U.S. Embassy support focusing on Holocaust education in Poland.

Additionally, there is ongoing collaboration between POLIN and the U.S. Embassy to send Polish educators to teacher training programs on Holocaust education in the United States.
