On October 18, a ceremony took place at the Jewish cemetery in Kraśnik, located in the Lubelskie region of Poland. The event marked the unveiling of a new monument dedicated to the memory of Jews who lived in Kraśnik and perished during World War II. These individuals once constituted up to half of the town's population.
The ceremony was attended by Frank Finver, Counselor for Public Affairs, and led by Monika Krawczyk, CEO of the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland. The event featured remarks from local officials and Helene Bald, a family member involved in organizing the monument's construction. The ceremony concluded with prayers offered by Bishop Mieczysław Cisło and Jewish Rabbi Symcha Keller.
Attendees had the opportunity to meet Michael Nash, a 95-year-old Holocaust survivor who was imprisoned alongside more than 700 fellow Jews in a Nazi labor camp in Będzin during World War II.
The Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland was founded in 2002 by the Union of Jewish Communities in Poland and the World Jewish Restitution Organization (WJRO). Its main mission is to protect and commemorate sites and monuments related to Jewish cultural heritage within Poland.
