The United States has delivered a prototype of the "Kozak" armored vehicle to the Ukraine Border Guard Service. The "Kozak," designed by Practika in Kyiv, Ukraine, is the first of its kind and meets Ukrainian Class 4 standards for armoring. It is built on an IVECO chassis and features a v-shaped armored hull designed to protect against anti-personnel mines or other explosives. This prototype serves as a lighter version of a U.S. Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle.
Previously, the United States provided dozens of armored pick-up trucks and vans to the Ukrainian Border Guard Service. The "Kozak" offers enhanced protection due to its larger size and advanced armor capabilities. The delivery of this prototype fulfills part of the commitments outlined in the June 4, 2014 White House Fact Sheet regarding U.S. Security Assistance to Ukraine.
