Panfilo Marquez has taken on the role of Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Peshawar, effective September 12, 2022. Marquez is a seasoned diplomat with 23 years of experience in the Foreign Service.
Before this appointment, Marquez was the Deputy Director in the Executive Office of the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs. He also served as Minister Counselor for Management Affairs in Mission Brazil and acted as Deputy Chief of Mission there for nearly a year. During his tenure in Brazil, he concentrated on enhancing law enforcement collaboration, military cooperation, and trade relations.
His career includes service as Management Officer for U.S. Missions to France, UNESCO, and OECD while stationed in France. Other roles have included Management Officer positions in Rio de Janeiro and Tijuana. His international assignments have taken him to Afghanistan, Costa Rica, and Jamaica.
Marquez's contributions have been recognized with several Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards alongside the Department’s Luther Replogle Award for Management Innovation due to his work in Brazil.
A California native, Marquez entered the Foreign Service after completing graduate studies at the University of California, San Diego where he earned a Master’s degree in Pacific and International Affairs. He is proficient in Spanish, French, and Portuguese.
Marquez expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's government and citizens to enhance diplomatic ties between the United States and Pakistan which are celebrating their 75th anniversary this year. His focus will be on advancing mutual interests such as trade, investment, environmental protection, health care improvements, security measures, education initiatives among other key areas.
