On March 1, Deputy Chief of Mission Eric Green hosted 26 high school finalists of the "I Know America" competition at his residence. This event recognized their efforts in learning about American culture and history. Green highlighted the significance of this year as the U.S. Embassy celebrates its 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Poland, stating, "We are counting on you to be the leaders in your communities and to also help keep our two countries close."

The students' visit included a trip to the American School of Warsaw, where they attended classes on global politics, computer science, art, biology, and theater alongside local students. They also visited the American Studies Center at the University of Warsaw and explored the Museum of the History of Polish Jews. At a meeting held at the American Center Warsaw, Rachel Moss, a Fulbright scholar at the University of Warsaw, presented reasons for considering studying in the United States.

While in Warsaw, finalists participated in a culinary workshop led by Scott Whitmore, deputy attaché for cultural affairs. The students collaborated in teams to prepare classic American dishes such as hamburger sliders, mac'n'cheese, and chocolate chip cookies. This workshop aimed not only to teach cooking skills but also emphasized teamwork and cooperation.

"I Know America" is an annual high school youth competition organized by the Rural Development Foundation with support from the US Embassy in Warsaw and the American Studies Center at the University of Warsaw. Now in its 16th year, this year's competition attracted nearly 1500 applicants from across Poland. Finalists gathered in Warsaw for an oral exam that determined top candidates for participation in various programs: a four-week "Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship" summer program in the United States; three placements at the American Studies Center; and an internship opportunity at the American Chamber of Commerce in Poland.

The U.S. Embassy values its partnership with the Rural Development Foundation on initiatives like these that strengthen ties between Poland and America.
