The United States, European Union, and Canada have jointly imposed sanctions on Russia in response to its actions against Ukraine. The coordinated measures target individuals responsible for the November 25 attack on Ukrainian naval vessels near the Kerch Strait. The United States has also sanctioned six Russian defense firms, two individuals involved in elections in eastern Ukraine under Russian control, and two Russian companies operating in Crimea.

Since the beginning of Russia's aggressive campaign against Ukraine five years ago, the Transatlantic partners have opposed Russia's actions. "Russia’s attack represented a dangerous escalation and a violation of international law," said Robert Palladino, Deputy Spokesperson. He urged Russia to return seized vessels and detained crew members to Ukraine and ensure free passage through the Kerch Strait and Sea of Azov.

Palladino emphasized that "the message to Russia is clear – the international community will not stand by while Russia continues to violate international norms and laws." The Transatlantic community remains united in countering Russian aggression.
