On February 15, the U.S. Embassy paid tribute to Colonel Kazimierz Klimczak, a veteran of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising, by presenting him with a Congressional flag that had flown over the US Capitol. This honor was in celebration of his 105th birthday and was made possible through the request of Senator Mark Warner.

Colonel Klimczak participated in the Battle of Bzura in 1939 against German forces, where he sustained an injury resulting in the loss of his arm while operating an anti-tank cannon. Despite this setback, he joined Poland's resistance movement and continued to fight as part of the Polish Home Army during the Warsaw Uprising.

Representatives from the U.S. Embassy included Naval Attaché Commander Thomas Wypyski, Assistant Army Attaché Major Andrew Underwood, Sergeant First Class Cook, George Gale, and Agnieszka Gale.
