Foreign ministers and representatives from Egypt, France, Germany, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and the United States gathered in Washington to discuss a political resolution for the Syrian conflict. The meeting aimed to support the UN's efforts based on Security Council Resolution 2254.
The officials emphasized that there is no military solution for Syria and stressed the necessity of diplomacy and international political will to end the conflict. They stated, "There is no military solution for Syria and no alternative to a political solution," highlighting the importance of diplomatic efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people.
The group expressed strong opposition to any attempts to destabilize the region or pursue a military solution. They warned that such actions would only increase the risk of escalation and wider conflict in the region. The statement read, "We affirm in the strongest terms that those who seek to destabilize the region or seek a military solution will only succeed in increasing the risk of a dangerous escalation and wider conflagration in the region."
The ministers reiterated their support for UN Special Envoy for Syria Pedersen's efforts. They underscored his mandate from both the Secretary-General and UN Security Council, encouraging all parties involved to engage substantively towards ending the Syrian conflict.
