The United States has expressed its readiness to support Ukraine in collaboration with European allies and partners, as the country faces a challenging path toward peace and the restoration of its sovereignty. The U.S. will evaluate Russia's and the separatists' commitment based on their actions rather than statements.
Secretary Kerry stated, "As we have long said, the United States is prepared to consider rolling back sanctions on Russia when the Minsk agreements of September 2014, and now this agreement, are fully implemented." The conditions for this include a complete ceasefire, withdrawal of foreign troops and equipment from Ukraine, full restoration of Ukrainian control over its international border, and the release of all hostages.
In addition to these developments, there is positive news regarding Ukraine's economic situation. The Government of Ukraine has reached an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which will provide $17.5 billion in financial assistance aimed at supporting economic reforms. This financial package is expected to help Ukraine implement necessary reforms for building a stronger democratic future.
"We also welcome the news that the Government of Ukraine and the IMF have reached an agreement that will allow the IMF to provide Ukraine with $17.5 billion in financial assistance in support of economic reforms," Secretary Kerry noted.
