The U.S. Government has announced the seventh open call for applications for the Ecuador Habla Inglés program, inviting English teachers from public schools in Ecuador to participate. The program aims to enhance the skills of English teachers by helping them achieve a B2 level in English and improve their language instruction capabilities. Applications are open until April 9 or until all spots are filled, with priority given to early applicants. Classes will be conducted virtually.

To qualify for the program, applicants must be English teachers within the Ministry of Education, work at a public institution, not yet possess a B2 CEFR level in English, and have an adequate internet connection for virtual learning.

Michael J. Fitzpatrick, the U.S. Ambassador to Ecuador, stated that "English opens doors, and is a fundamental tool to expand professional and personal goals." He highlighted that learning English allows individuals to experience other cultures and meet new people globally.

The initiative is part of an agreement signed in 2020 between Ecuador's Ministry of Education and the U.S. Government. Initially launched in Manabí, the program has since expanded nationwide and is implemented by EIL Ecuador with sponsorship from the U.S. Government.

Andrés Chiriboga Zumárraga, Vice Minister of Educational Management at the Ministry of Education, expressed support for the program: “This is a great step for education in Ecuador and demonstrates a clear commitment to improving our teachers’ skills and knowledge of the English language."

Since its inception in 2020, Ecuador Habla Inglés has trained over 2,000 teachers through six previous calls. This latest round aims to train an additional 250 teachers, ultimately benefiting approximately 400,000 students who will learn from these trained educators.

The United States acknowledges the significance of promoting English language-learning and remains committed to collaborating with Ecuador on educational initiatives.
