On March 8, 2023, coinciding with Women's Day, the United States Government reiterated its commitment to gender equality. The initiative aims to ensure women and girls have equal access and opportunities in various sectors such as security, economy, politics, science and technology, health, education, and culture. This effort is part of a broader collaboration with international and local partners to promote gender equality in Ecuador.
The theme for Women's Day 2023 by the United Nations is "DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality." In alignment with this theme, the U.S. has announced a new application round for the Providing Opportunities for Women’s Economic Advancement (POWER) program. This program focuses on economic empowerment and supporting women-led technology companies. College women pursuing STEM careers are encouraged to apply by March 31.
Debra Hevia, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Ecuador stated: “For the United States, women’s empowerment and gender equality are top priorities. Women have a unique and valuable perspective: their voices must be included everywhere decisions are made. Their inclusion and access to opportunities is integral to innovation and the development of a democratic society.”
Gender equity remains a fundamental priority for the United States both domestically and internationally. The government acknowledges that inclusive participation strengthens governments, economies, industries, and communities globally.
