Across the United States, significant progress has been achieved by individuals who have actively voiced their stories. Earlier this year, protections for Federal contractors went into effect due to a landmark Executive Order on LGBT workplace discrimination. This measure safeguards against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The Federal Government aims to lead by example, ensuring employees and contractors are evaluated by their work quality rather than personal relationships. The President continues to urge Congress to pass legislation extending these protections to all Americans.

In various communities nationwide, barriers limiting the potential of LGBT Americans have been dismantled. However, many still face discrimination and unfair treatment. The Administration supports efforts to ban conversion therapy for minors due to scientific evidence highlighting its harm. Recognizing challenges faced by sexual and gender minorities, especially transgender individuals, steps are being taken to address these issues. Family acceptance is acknowledged as a crucial protective factor against suicide and harm for LGBTQ youth.

Efforts continue to tackle bullying and harassment in schools, aiming for nurturing learning environments for every student. Across the Federal Government, initiatives are underway to provide opportunities and resources needed by LGBT individuals. Many LGBTQ youth experience homelessness while older individuals struggle with housing access; thus, equal access to safe housing is prioritized. Updates are being made to the National HIV/AIDS Strategy focusing on gay men and transgender women communities.

Family benefits are extended to legally married same-sex couples, emphasizing that LGBT rights equate human rights globally. During Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month, the legacy of LGBT contributions is celebrated alongside ongoing efforts toward societal inclusivity.

President Barack Obama proclaimed June 2015 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month: "I call upon the people of the United States to eliminate prejudice everywhere it exists."

The proclamation was signed on May 29th in the year two thousand fifteen.
