Today marks the 70th anniversary of V-E Day, a significant moment in history commemorating the end of World War II in Europe. In recognition of this day, the President has issued a statement paying tribute to the millions of Americans who served during the war.

"We salute the more than 16 million Americans who left everything they knew—their families, their homes—to serve in World War II, and then came home to help build the America we know today," said the President. He also honored "the memory of the more than 400,000 Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we might live free."

The President emphasized a continued commitment to "the freedoms for which they fought" and "the American Dream for which they died." He expressed solidarity with allies around the world in defending liberty and human rights.

In his statement, he acknowledged "our brave men and women in uniform and their families who continue to defend the freedom that was won 70 years ago today."
