Over 60 years ago, several European countries began a journey toward unity. This was achieved not through military force but through the free movement of trade, ideas, and people. A union was built on values such as the rule of law, democracy, and prosperity for all. Today, the European Union has brought Europe closer to being whole, free, and at peace.
The United States expresses pride in collaborating with the European Union. Together, they support Ukraine against Russian aggression and share a vision of a secure Ukraine within its recognized borders. The U.S. commends Europe's leadership in combating ISIL and applauds efforts to save lives in the Mediterranean while addressing the root causes that drive migrants and asylum seekers from their homes.
In celebration of Europe Day, congratulations are extended to the European Union for its achievements with wishes for continued peace and prosperity.
