Cairo – The United States, in collaboration with Egypt's Ministries of International Cooperation and Higher Education, has announced the launch of the U.S.-Egypt Higher Education Initiative. This $250 million initiative aims to provide educational opportunities for Egyptians, enhancing skills necessary for the modern economy. The program will offer up to 1,900 university scholarships and exchanges for Egyptian students to study both domestically and in the U.S., along with supporting up to 20 partnerships between Egyptian and American universities.

U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Stephen Beecroft stated, “Today we celebrate a new and exciting chapter in the educational history of our two nations – the comprehensive three-year panorama of scholarships and university partnerships that the American government and people will fund and support.” He emphasized that "the U.S.-Egypt Higher Education Initiative is a sign of U.S. commitment to Egypt’s future."

The initiative comprises five scholarship components focused on strategic fields contributing to Egypt's economic growth. It includes opportunities for 100 women to pursue MBAs at U.S. universities, 60 women in STEM fields, and scholarships for 550 high-achieving low-income students at Egyptian private and public universities. Additionally, it features over 50 Fulbright scholarships for Master's and doctoral programs in the U.S., as well as numerous exchange programs.

The initiative also seeks to foster partnerships between Egyptian and American institutions, promoting knowledge exchange in critical areas like agribusiness, engineering, and entrepreneurship. These collaborations aim to enhance Egyptian universities' competitiveness globally while providing technical assistance for higher education reforms.

Historically, the U.S. Government has supported Egyptian students through various scholarship programs via the U.S. Embassy, USAID, and the Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt (BFCE), benefiting thousands over four decades.
