A group of U.S. healthcare companies has completed a three-day visit to Cairo, where they engaged with potential Egyptian partners to introduce advanced U.S. medical technology to the region. The delegation, consisting of six companies and led by the U.S. Department of Commerce, held discussions with local businesses, the Minister of Trade and Industry, and officials from the Ministry of Health to explore trade and investment opportunities in Egypt.

Ken Hyatt, Deputy Under Secretary in the U.S. Department of Commerce, expressed optimism about the visit's outcomes: “We have had many very positive conversations on this visit,” he stated. “The U.S. companies with me on this trip understand the potential of the Egyptian market, and I expect that our visit will lead to new business and investment opportunities between the U.S. and Egypt.”

During their stay from May 16 to 18, representatives from these U.S. companies conducted over fifty individual meetings with Egyptian firms to discuss prospective projects.

Hyatt highlighted the timeliness of this mission: “The timing of this healthcare trade mission is great because it comes as Egypt is working to increase access to quality healthcare for its citizens through the Healthcare Reform Program,” he said. “The companies on this trade mission can offer the latest in innovative healthcare technology and services.”

This marks the fourth trade delegation led by the U.S. government to Egypt within six months. Previous missions were organized by the Department of Commerce in March 2015 and December 2014. Additionally, last November saw a significant delegation led by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce comprising over sixty companies.

In 2014, trade between Egypt and the United States amounted to nearly $8 billion. These delegations are part of efforts by the U.S. Embassy aimed at strengthening Egypt's economy and fostering business relations between both nations.
