Ambassador David Saperstein, the U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, is currently in Egypt to engage with government officials and leaders from religious and civil society sectors. The purpose of his visit is to discuss ways to advance religious tolerance and promote inter-faith dialogue within the region.
"Religious tolerance and freedom are fundamental values that both the United States and Egypt cherish deeply. These shared values are what motivate us in the global fight against violent extremism. I look forward to speaking with Egyptian religious leaders about how we can work together to promote tolerance in the region," stated Ambassador Saperstein.
Before arriving in Cairo, Ambassador Saperstein visited Turkey, where he delivered keynote remarks at the 2015 G20 Interfaith Summit.
Ambassador Saperstein began his role on January 6, 2015. As mandated by U.S. law, he serves as a principal advisor to both the U.S. President and Secretary of State, acting as the chief envoy on matters related to religious freedom worldwide.
