Ambassador David Thorne, Senior Advisor to Secretary of State John Kerry, is currently in Egypt. His visit includes meetings with senior Egyptian officials, business executives, and representatives of U.S. businesses operating in the country. The purpose of these discussions is to emphasize the partnership between the United States and Egypt and support Egypt's economic development.
"Egypt and the United States have a long history of cooperation," Ambassador Thorne stated. "I am pleased to be here and to see firsthand the results of that cooperation and to explore avenues for further engagement."
In addition to his engagements in Cairo, Ambassador Thorne will travel to Luxor. There, he plans to visit projects sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). These projects focus on cultural heritage and antiquities preservation, which are seen as vital for promoting tourism and economic growth.
Ambassador Thorne has served as Senior Advisor since August 2013. In this role, Secretary Kerry has tasked him with enhancing the prominence of economic and commercial issues within U.S. foreign policy. Additionally, he is working on highlighting entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation as key elements in promoting global prosperity through the State Department.
