The U.S. Embassy in Cairo, in collaboration with the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality, has organized a workshop focusing on global standards and best practices for the solar power industry. The event took place at the Semiramis Hotel and brought together business leaders and government officials to discuss solar power generation safety and performance standards. The aim was to enhance sustainable energy production in Egypt and improve its competitiveness in the global energy market.
The workshop featured experts from the U.S. Department of Commerce and various U.S. standards organizations who traveled to Cairo to conduct training sessions throughout the day. Among the fifty participants were representatives from the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), as well as ministries including Trade, Electricity and Renewable Energy, Environment, and Tourism.
U.S. Ambassador Stephen Beecroft highlighted the importance of this initiative: “This program is a good example of how we cooperate with Egypt on protecting the environment and on helping generate needed energy. It will help improve the production of solar power, which is an important renewable energy source, and help ensure the delivery of high quality and reliable power through technologies that reduce costs and improve efficiency.”
This workshop was a result of discussions during a visit by the U.S. Department of Commerce to Egypt last December, where both nations explored ways to attract investment into Egypt's sustainable energy sector.
In recent months, there have been four significant trade delegations from U.S. companies visiting Egypt under initiatives led by the U.S. Embassy and Department of Commerce aimed at boosting trade relations between the two countries.
