On September 17, U.S. Ambassador Stephen Beecroft awarded graduation certificates to 480 Egyptian students who completed the English Access Microscholarship Program. This initiative, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, provides two years of English language training and extracurricular activities. The program is supported by the U.S. Embassy and organized by the American University in Cairo and AMIDEAST.
Since its inception in Egypt in 2006, over 2,500 young Egyptians have participated in the Access Program. Ambassador Beecroft highlighted its impact during the ceremony: “The Access program is tremendously successful in helping bright young Egyptian students learn English, which opens the door to so many future opportunities.”
He noted that many graduates are using their skills for community benefit: “It’s great to see the successes of these Access students, many of whom are putting their skills to good use in their communities.” He also mentioned a recent project involving nearly sixty former students on International Literacy Day aimed at promoting literacy.
The program has enabled numerous participants to secure scholarships and pursue higher education globally. The English Access Microscholarship Program is part of more than 30 initiatives offered by the U.S. Embassy for learners and teachers across Egypt.
