The U.S. Embassy, in collaboration with Egyptian agricultural and biological experts, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, and the U.S. Department of Justice, hosted a workshop in Hurghada focusing on "Laboratory Management of Biological Risk." This three-day event took place from September 29 to October 1 and aimed to facilitate discussions between Egyptian and U.S. laboratory specialists. The primary goal was to raise awareness about the security risks associated with hazardous biological materials and emphasize the importance of protecting those who work with such substances.
During the workshop, Egyptian participants were trained to identify potential vulnerabilities and develop strategies to mitigate risks related to contamination or biological outbreaks that could impact food supply and public health.
Ambassador Beecroft commented on the significance of this initiative, stating it is "another example of close bilateral U.S.-Egyptian scientific collaboration. By addressing basic issues of pathogen security and safe laboratory practice, the workshop helped promote scientific advances that serve the Egyptian public. It further strengthened the people-to-people ties that underpin the strong relationship between our two countries."
