BMO has announced a $3 million pledge to support wildfire relief, recovery, and rebuilding efforts in the Los Angeles area. The financial commitment aims to assist community organizations addressing immediate needs following the devastating wildfires.
"The scale of this tragedy is overwhelming, and our thoughts remain with the thousands of people impacted by these devastating wildfires and the first responders putting themselves at risk to provide relief," stated Darrel Hackett, CEO of BMO U.S. He emphasized BMO's dedication to supporting Southern California communities as they embark on the challenging journey of recovery and rebuilding.
In addition to this pledge, BMO has recently donated $100,000 to local organizations such as the United Way LA (UWLA) Wildfire Response Fund and Direct Relief Wildfire Response. The bank also continues its annual contributions to the American Red Cross Emergency Relief Fund.
On January 17, BMO Stadium in Los Angeles is being utilized as a distribution site for supplies and clothing for those affected by the fires. The American Red Cross is managing this effort with assistance from local professional sports teams like LAFC and Angel City FC. Volunteers will distribute essential items such as personal hygiene kits, food, and water from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
BMO encourages individuals or businesses in affected areas to visit their website for information on available support services.
The bank's social impact initiatives reflect its mission "to Boldly Grow the Good in business and life." In 2023 alone, BMO donated over $84 million across North America and engaged employees in nearly 62,000 hours of community volunteering.
BMO Financial Group ranks as North America's eighth largest bank by assets, totaling $1.41 trillion as of October 31, 2024. With a history spanning two centuries, BMO serves millions across Canada, the United States, and select global markets through diverse banking services.
