The U.S. Embassy in Cairo is preparing to welcome American violinist Chelsey Green and her band, the Green Project, as they embark on their first tour of Egypt. The concert series, titled "Hakawatya," will include performances at the Citadel in Cairo on February 28 and at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria on March 3. The shows will feature collaborations with Egyptian musicians Dina El Wedidi and Fathy Salama.

Chelsey Green is known for her innovative approach to jazz, combining classical technique with elements from Pop, Soul, Hip Hop, and Gospel music. Her work has been described as "vivacious" and "electrifying." Dina El Wedidi, an Egyptian music revivalist, brings traditional Egyptian tones into a modern context.

Adnan Siddiqi, Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy Cairo, commented on the collaboration: “The artistic collaboration of Ms. Green and her band with Dina El-Wedidi and Fathy Salama reminds us of the power and attraction of cross-cultural exchange and expression.” He added that this event aligns with Black History Month celebrations by sharing diverse musical heritage.

Green's visit is supported by the U.S. Department of State’s American Music Abroad (AMA) program. This initiative sends musicians abroad as Cultural Ambassadors to engage with international audiences through concerts and interactive sessions. The program continues a tradition that began when Louis Armstrong visited Egypt in 1961.

Tickets for the upcoming concerts are available through Ticketsmarché.
