In Alexandria, the U.S. Consulate General marked the opening of its new office space at the Helnan Palestine Hotel with a reception on March 11. U.S. Ambassador Stephen Beecroft expressed his satisfaction with returning to Alexandria for this event, stating, "With the new offices, we benefit from increased engagement with the people of Alexandria and the region."
Consul General Stephen Fakan reflected on historical ties by noting that "the first U.S. Consular Office in Egypt was here in Alexandria, in 1835." He emphasized ongoing partnerships promoting education, economic development, women's advancement, and entrepreneurship.
During the celebration, U.S. Mission staff detailed various educational and exchange programs offered by both Embassy Cairo and Consulate Alexandria. Officials from the Regional English Language Office outlined teacher training initiatives alongside their flagship English Access Microscholarship Program. Representatives from Fulbright Commission elaborated on their academic exchange program while AMIDEAST discussed skills-training opportunities available in Alexandria. EducationUSA personnel provided insights into workshops assisting Egyptians with researching, applying for, funding, and attending U.S.-based colleges and universities.
