U.S. Ambassador Stephen Beecroft made a visit to Port Said on March 10, 2017, where he engaged with representatives from Egyptian shipping companies. The discussions focused on the frequent transits of U.S. vessels through the Suez Canal.

During his visit, Ambassador Beecroft also toured a U.S. vessel and held meetings with senior officials responsible for security at the Suez Canal.

In a statement from Port Said, Ambassador Beecroft emphasized the importance of the Suez Canal, saying: “The Suez Canal is a vital waterway that is crucial to the global economy and regional and international security.” He expressed satisfaction with his visit, noting: “I am pleased to be here and to see firsthand the role it plays in global affairs. I appreciate the support of the Egyptian authorities in making this visit possible.”
