The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched the first "Startup Weekend for Women" in Alexandria, Egypt. This event aims to empower women entrepreneurs by providing them with the tools and knowledge necessary to build successful businesses.

USAID Deputy Mission Director Rebecca Latorraca highlighted the significance of women's potential impact on Egypt's economic development during her opening remarks. She stated, “Women have the potential to have a tremendous impact on Egypt’s economic development,” adding that USAID is proud to support this pioneering event.

The Startup Weekend is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and United Nations Women. It gathers hundreds of aspiring female entrepreneurs who are taught how to create business plans and present their ideas to potential investors. The initiative focuses on transforming ideas into viable business ventures that can generate employment and contribute positively to Egypt's economy.

This event is part of USAID's broader efforts to enhance entrepreneurship and enterprise development among women in Egypt. It forms a component of a comprehensive technical assistance package from the American people aimed at promoting job creation, economic recovery, private sector growth, and an improved trade and investment environment.

Since 1978, USAID has invested nearly $30 billion in Egypt as part of its commitment to supporting the Egyptian people.
