U.S. top military official discusses security with Egypt's President Sisi

The U.S. Embassy in Cairo hosted General Joseph F. Dunford, Jr., the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, during his visit to Egypt for discussions with senior Egyptian officials. On April 23, 2016, General Dunford met with President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, Minister of Defense General Sedky Sobhy, and Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces LTG Mahmoud Hegazy.

During a meeting at the Presidential Palace, General Dunford and President Sisi focused on regional security concerns. They also discussed potential bilateral counter-terrorism efforts and ways to strengthen the U.S.-Egypt relationship and military-to-military partnership.

General Dunford serves as the United States’ highest-ranking military officer and is the principal military adviser to President Barack Obama, Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, and the National Security Council.
