The United States continues to support Cameroon's public health efforts through a recent donation of laboratory supplies. Ambassador Lamora highlighted the collaboration between the U.S. and Cameroon during an event marking the delivery of these supplies.
The supplies, valued at over 63 million francs CFA ($100,000), were procured by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and delivered in partnership with UNICEF. They aim to bolster Cameroon's capacity to address public health threats by enhancing its laboratory and diagnostic capabilities.
Ambassador Lamora emphasized, "Strengthening public health capacity is a key goal of the American mission in Cameroon." The donated supplies will aid the National Public Health Laboratory in identifying diseases such as Mpox, cholera, whooping cough, and COVID-19.
Representatives from various sectors attended the event, including those from the Cameroonian government, UNICEF, and several departments within Cameroon's Ministry of Public Health. These include the Department for the Control of Diseases, Epidemics and Pandemics; the Public Health Emergency Operations Center; and the National Public Health Laboratory.
Ambassador Lamora expressed gratitude towards these entities for their role in ensuring safe delivery of the supplies: "I would like to thank the Cameroonian government, CDC, and UNICEF for their work."
The donation reflects ongoing efforts by both nations to strengthen global health security through enhanced cooperation. The U.S. Government reiterated its commitment to being a partner in Cameroon's public health initiatives.
