The Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) held its second Competitiveness Forum in Cairo, where Chargé d’Affaires Thomas Goldberger delivered opening remarks. He expressed gratitude to Minister Nasr and Major General Tarek Ezzat for their participation and acknowledged the successful rescue of Captain al-Hayis by Egyptian security forces.

Goldberger highlighted the ongoing fight against terrorism, referencing a recent attack in New York City. He emphasized the joint efforts of the United States and Egypt to combat these threats, stating, "I have no doubt that working together the United States and Egypt will defeat the forces of evil."

The forum was recognized as part of a broader effort to strengthen U.S.-Egypt relations. Goldberger noted that Vice President Pence would visit Cairo in December for meetings with President Sisi, following previous high-level engagements between the two nations.

Goldberger pointed out that military cooperation between the countries is expanding, citing the Bright Star military exercise as an example. He also mentioned growing cultural exchanges and educational programs enhancing people-to-people ties.

The forum focused on economic collaboration, with Goldberger acknowledging Egypt's economic reforms supported by international partners. He expressed optimism about opportunities for U.S. businesses arising from these changes.

In closing, Goldberger commended American companies present at the event for their potential role in Egypt's economic success and called for recommendations to make Egypt more attractive for foreign investment.
